TP Trampoline Buying Guide
Choosing a Frame
A trampoline gives you the opportunity to enjoy low impact aerobic exercise out in the fresh air as well as developing balance, agility and co-ordination skills. As this is one outdoor activity the whole family can enjoy, make sure you choose a trampoline that will stand up to the demands of all family use.
Not all trampolines are the same. They may look similar but they could be very different, both in terms of quality and therefore of safety. The information below identifies the five most important points addressed when you buy a trampoline for your family.
Frames
Check the trampoline is made of galvanised steel, and so suitable for outdoor use all year round. The frames should be very sturdy and well constructed to take the weight of a jumping child or adult. When comparing trampolines consider two weights:
The total weight of the product in its box(es) before it is assembled. In general terms, the heavier the better, as this will reflect the likely strength of the steel.
The manufacturer's user weights. Responsible manufacturers err on the side of caution with weight recommendations. For example an athletic 60kg teenager will pose a greater challenge to the robustness of the trampoline than a sedate 80kg adult. Quite simply the greater the height achieved by the bouncer, the greater the loading on the springs. It is therefore well worth investing in a quality trampoline with a weight limit in excess of the heaviest user in your family. remember, families get heavier not lighter!
Frame Pads
These have a very important job to do. Frame pads provide the jumper with lasting protection against any impact with either the frame or the springs. So look at the pads.
Trampoline pads should be dense and wide and should not absorb water. That's important because soggy pads are less effective and rot quickly.
Frame pads should completely cover the framework and springs and they should be securely attached to the frame.
Springs
The better the spring, the better the bounce! Look for strength, length & quantity.
They should be strong enough not to weaken and stretch out of shape after vigorous use. A low cost spring that doesn't spring back to its original shape is of little value.
Mat
Trampoline mats should be properly stitched (several lines of stitching) to ensure they are capable of taking the weight safely. Look at how the springs are attached to the mat. A 'D' ring attachment method, rather than hooking the springs directly into the material, will extend the life of the mat. The mat surface on a round trampoline should be non abrasive. It will not hurt when your child's skin comes into contact with it.
Warranty
Trampolines are now available from many different sources. A trampoline should be a long term investment that the entire family will enjoy for years. TP has been in business for over 45 years. They offer a good warranty, sales advice and after care service if you need it.
